about

This amazing avant-garde guitar intro is played by Tom Herman from the Cleveland band Pere Ubu and is followed by an electronic soundscape over which I perform a poem I wrote when I was fifteen in 1967.

Synthesizer: Moog MINIMOOG Model D.

lyrics

"THE LONER"

A handful of children
Sat in the warm dust
At the foot of the hill.
The flaming sun and the clinging dirt
Bronzed their fragile forms
As they made castles of sand
And then smashed them!

From daybreak to dusk,
They created and destroyed
And created and destroyed
And created again…

Until, as night was about to fall,
One lone youngster stood up,
His eyes as wide as the horizon,
And staring the blood-red moon in the face,
Asked, "WHY?"
