about

"THE GRIM RIDER" reveals an ominously dark journey into higher consciousness through mind-altering substances. At fourteen minutes, it's the longest song I released during the twentieth century and is my ultimate psychedelic statement from that era.

Synthesizers: Maestro THEREMIN, Moog MINIMOOG Model D. Organ: Vox CONTINENTAL. Effects: Electro-Harmonix BIG MUFF, Maestro ECHOPLEX, Maestro PHASE SHIFTER.

lyrics

"THE GRIM RIDER"

Mankind has come from the caves
Down to the riverbed.
(Time is a stream.)
Even doctors join the festivities
(Carnivals and orgies).
Nobody worries about survival!
It’s a concept nobody knows!

A flash of fire! A streak of blue!
The blonde harlot clings to you!

The air is personified.
The lungs with mystery fill,
And mystery is exhaled.
The price of freedom’s post
Is death and a dime.
On the sunset, she sailed.

Darkness, shattered like a mirror,
Clutches the stellar missiles
Hell-like in its heart,
And the hound of the north
Howls at the crumbling moon.

The heat of the forge darkened your face
As you formed the stainless trace.
Made of the sky, worn on the Earth,
The other worlds gave them birth.

Silver bracelets from the sky!
Silver bracelets from the sky!
Silver bracelets from the sky!
Used to straddle the fence called Death!

Kill the ghost!
Kill the ghost!
From her box!
Kill the ghost!

Do not wait!
Another will take your place!
It is deep and soft,
And it belongs to you
For a little while.

See the sun!
Feel it burn!
See the moon!
Feel it soon!

When the call of the president is heard,
The sinister inflames the walls of the skull,
And the enamel of the moon is ensured.
So much is thought in the brief lull
That consuming bewilderment is all
To be found. Witchcraft, wisdom, and a wand
Are all that you see as the witch’s pawn.

Drink,
Child who is no child,
Drink the nectar of America!
Eat,
Dreamer who creates nightmares,
Eat the fresh leaves from the rustling trees!
Feast,
Girl who is chained in a coma,
Feast upon the gods and demigods!

Melt together; be as one.
Melt together; be as one.
Shine together, moon and sun.

Go trek the canyons
Along stone roadways!
On each side of them,
Feldspar forests reach
Up to the jet sky,
Where the diamond stars
Would like to freeze their
Spreading limbs of light,
But instead drop down
Like tears from the eyes.

Petrified brain,
You have become
Hardened and insane
Because one person
Was declared sane.
Rip off your clothes!
Release the pain!

Give me your hand;
I’ll lead you through
This loveless land
Of psychic blues!

A silver realm
Will then exist,
A sturdy elm
In purple mist.

We will transcend
Cold winter’s frost
To journey’s end,
Not to be lost!

Distance sobs through her centuries,
And energy flows distastefully.
The house of man with light in hand closes.

Where do we go in death now slow
With burns from the red glow ember?
We lay right down crawling around,
Clutching our love-spurting members!

Mankind has gone through its days
After the sleep of the dead.
(Death is a dream.)
Even morticians join the festivities
(Funerals and stories).
Nobody worries about revival!
It’s a concept nobody chose!
